LAUC-LA Handbook: Representatives at Large

This guide provides information and background documents for LAUC-LA Committees to carry out their charges. For a committee’s charge and roster, click that committee tab and a drop-down menu will lead to the procedures and documents for each committee.

1. Encourage and facilitate communication between the Executive Board and the membership.

2. Serve as a voting member of the Executive Board.

3. Serve as delegate from LAUC-LA to statewide Assembly.

2023-24

General Charge:

For 2023-24, the Statewide Representatives are charged with fulfilling their standing Charge as stated in Article V, Section 3 of the LAUC-LA Bylaws (as amended June 2014):

  1. The term of office shall be one year, commencing September 1.
  2. Each Statewide Representative shall:
    1. Encourage and facilitate communication between the Executive Board and the membership.
    2. Serve as a voting member of the Executive Board.
    3. Serve as delegate from LAUC-LA to statewide Assembly.
  3. In the event of a vacancy in the office of a Statewide Representative, there shall be a special election to fill the vacancy, unless the vacancy occurs within 60 days of the next regularly scheduled election. Such special election shall be held no later than one month from the date of vacancy. For the election procedures, see Article IX, Section 2.c.

Develop a plan to reach out to the LAUC-LA membership in a variety of ways in which to garner member feedback, concerns, and questions for the Executive Board.  Methods for reaching out the membership may include brown bag lunches, one-on-one meetings, surveys, etc., keeping in mind the possible need for privacy.  Engaging the membership should be undertaken throughout the year, and while considering the results of any given activity, the representatives should consider what, if any, type of action is required by the Executive Board.


2014-2015

2012-2013

 a.      The term of office shall be one year, commencing September 1.

 b.      Each Statewide Representative shall:

1.    Encourage and facilitate communication between the Executive Board and the membership.

2.    Serve as a voting member of the Executive Board.

3.    Serve as delegate from LAUC-LA to statewide Assembly.

 c.      In the event of a vacancy in the office of a Statewide Representative, there shall be a special election to fill the vacancy, unless the vacancy occurs within 60 days of the next regularly scheduled election.  Such special election shall be held no later than one month from the date of vacancy. Special Charges for 2012/2013

LIBCal

The Statewide Representatives will explore implementing a shared calendaring tool.

LAUC President’s Theme:

Based on the current LAUC President’s theme, consider devising workshops or discussions groups for LAUC-LA members. Working with the LAUC-LA Committee on Programs, the LAUC-LA Committee on Professional Governance, and the LAUC-LA Representative to the LAUC Committee on Professional Governance (TBD), the Statewide Representatives will participate in the organization of programs, brown bag sessions or other activities to gather input from LAUC-LA members.

LAUC Assembly:

Because the LAUC Statewide Assembly will be at UCLA, the Representatives may have a greater role at the meeting.

The Statewide Representatives will be responsible for keeping the LAUC-LA membership up to date about the issues covered by LAUC Statewide, and will submit a summary report to the Executive Board in advance of the LAUC-LA Spring Meeting and the LAUC Assembly. At the LAUC Assembly in Spring 2013, the Statewide Representatives will present the viewpoints of LAUC-LA members and report back to the LAUC-LA membership after the Assembly.

Develop the Statewide Representatives’ section of the LAUC-LA Procedures Manual by adding relevant content.
