The Nakatani Endowment fund was made possible by alumna June Kim. She created the first Japanese Studies fund in the EAL in the memory of her parents, native Californians David and Yachiyo Nakatani. During WWII, they were incarcerated at the Tule Lake War Relocation Center, where June was born. The endowment supports the acquisition, processing, and preservation of resources for the East Asian Library, as well as reference and instruction services, outreach activities and Library exhibits and programming related to Japanese Studies. You may view the official page of the endowment here.
These books were purchased with funds from the Nakatani endowment. They are a part of the 倭国字西洋文庫 Yamato-gana Seiyō bunko [Collection of Western Stories in Japanese Kana] collection.
