Ali: Fear Eats the Soul (dir. Rainer Werner Fassbinder, 1974).

"Lonely widow Emmi Kurowski meets Arab worker Ali in a bar during a rainstorm. They fall in love––to their own surprise––and to the shock of family, colleagues, and drinking buddies."

The film was a Palm d'Or nominee at the 1972 Cannes Film Festival.

Wings of Desire (dir. Wim Wenders, 1987).

"Damiel, an angel perched atop buildings high over Berlin who can hear the thoughts—fears, hopes, dreams—of all the people living below. But when he falls in love with a beautiful trapeze artist, he is willing to give up his immortality and come back to earth to be with her."

Wim Wenders won the award for Best DIrector and the film was nominated for the Palm d'Or at the 1987 Cannes Film Festival.
