Chicano Studies Research Center Library

Serving the UCLA and Chicano community since 1969

Subject Files

The Subject Files Collection was created in 1969 and has since, over the years, been added to by previous CSRC Librarians. The purpose of the subject files (also referred to as vertical files) was to provide users with information about a certain topic quickly; and hopefully help them kick start their research before the age of computers, research databases, and Google. The files are indexed alphabetically and include articles, programs, flyers, letters--anything related to a specific person, organization, place, or event. While the Library no longer adds to these files, they still serve their purpose as a research collection and starting point for students and researchers. There are also original, archival items that might otherwise never been saved. For more information, please call or email the CSRC Library.
