Library Digital Collections are relative newcomers to college and research libraries, historically speaking. This interactive guide will help introduce you to the wide varieties of content made available in digital collections both at UCLA and around the world. Not to be confused with other varieties of digital and online content the library provides access to, such as ebooks and online scholarly journals, digital collections are more commonly associated with rare and unique items held in Special Collections or other repositories. Digital collections offer much more than online facsimiles of physical holdings, however. They are designed to work with robust tools and capabilities for instruction, advanced research, and scholarly communication. Because much of the technologies used in digital collections are recent and innovative, this guide will address what is in the collections as well as provide interactive experiences to help you understand you to engage them.
