Cluster 60: America in Sixties: Politics, Society, and Culture, 1954 to 1974

Library Special Collections

Special Collections’ holdings contain a variety of materials that document the histories of Los Angeles’s varied communities. These materials include personal papers, records of organizations, government records, collections of photographs, oral histories, and various kinds of ephemera.

Finding aids for materials in Library Special Collections can be found in the Online Archive of California.

Library Special Collections has pulled a few collections specifically for this class: LSC Items Pulled for Cluster 60.  You will still have to make an account in Aeon to request these items.

Magazines in Print

Issues of old magazines are bound together and available for check-out from the Library.

To search for a particular magazine:

  1. Search for the magazine in the Journal Search view in UC Library Search.
  2. Click on the title of the magazine.
  3. Under "How to Get It" you can tell which library has the bound copies of the magazine.  The call number will tell you where it is on the shelf.  Note: many of the older magazines will be stored in SRLF.  You can log in to your library account and request to have them sent to pick up at the library of your choice.  Many of the magazines will be on the third floor of YRL, in the AP2 section as well.

Here are some possibilities:

Books in Print

To find books in UCLA Library's physical collection:

  2. Select the material type "Book."
  3. Enter a date range that fits with your topic.
  4. Enter your keyword or title.
  5. Search!
  6. You will get e-book results with this search.  There is no way to filter for print materials directly. Once you get your results, you can use the "UCLA Library filter" on the left to select certain libraries (like "Young Research Library").
