Architecture & Urban Design

Module A features a wide range of art in Italy, from Ancient Roman frescoes, mosaics and sculpture to masterworks (paintings and sculpture) from the Medieval to Baroque periods.

Module B expands on the collection of Italian Art in Module A, featuring more examples of Ancient Roman frescoes, mosaics and sculptures, as well as additional works by the masters—paintings and sculpture—from the Medieval to Baroque periods.

Module C features an expansive collection of visual art works from France, North America, and Asia. The French art collection highlights the extensive oeuvre of Marc Chagall, primarily featuring pieces from the Chagall Museum in Nice and the Chagall: Colour and Music exhibit in Montréal (2017). This module also documents art works from the Matisse Museum in Nice, including several of his well-known cutouts, such as the striking and colorful ones made to illustrate the book ‘Jazz.’

Module C primarily focuses on French art, including a complete documentation of the cutting-edge replica of prehistoric cave art at the new International Centre for Cave Art, Lascaux, France. Also contained in this module are additional art pieces housed in museums in Italy, China, U.S., and Canada, as well a small collection of photos of prehistoric rock art in South Africa.

Module Three provides a wide survey of important architectural works, spanning from the ancient world to contemporary buildings. This module includes examples of Ancient Roman and Byzantine architecture. More recent contemporary architectural examples include works by Gehry, Pelli, Calatrava, Libeskind, Lloyd Wright, and more. This collection also includes some photographs of murals by Diego Rivera.

Module Four primarily focuses on architecture in Los Angeles and the United Kingdom, with a secondary collection of various European architecture. The Los Angeles collection primarily focuses on the Disney Concert Hall by Gehry and the Franklin D. Murphy Sculpture Garden at UCLA. Among the U.K. collection are two important Charles Rennie Mackintosh designs, the Glasgow School of Art and the House of an Art Lover, as well as art content from the V&A Museum.

Module Five provides a vast survey of international architecture, primarily focusing on major names in architecture, such as Niemeyer, Gaudi, Mies, Calatrava, Mackintosh, and more. Featured architecture also spans several countries, including Brazil, Slovenia, China, and Spain. This collection contains expansive coverage of the Olympic Village in Beijing and Antonio Gaudi's work in Barcelona.

Module Six primarily focuses on Chinese architecture, featuring extensive coverage of the Forbidden City and the Youngang Grottos in Datong, new works in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing, and more. The secondary portion of the module includes miscellaneous mid century European architecture, such as works by Le Corbusier in Paris, France and The Bauhaus in Dessau, Germany.

Module Seven features a vast collection of European, Asian, and American architecture, including photos of Cambodian architectural landmarks, such as Ankor Wat, the Royal Palace of Phnom Penh (with details of the Ramayana Frescoes), and more. Additional collection highlights include: Pergamon Altar in the Pergamon Museum, Berlin (GR), a photo series of Georgian architecture in Edinburgh and London (U.K.), the Hanging Monastery and the Pagoda of Fogong Temple (China).

Module Eight primarily features an extensive collection of new architectural photography in the USA including: Watts Towers (Los Angeles) by Sabato Rodia, Arabian Public Library by Richard + Bauer Architecture (AZ), Simmons Hall at the MIT by Steven Holl, and additional Los Angeles buildings, including several by Greene & Greene. Also featured: many important works in Germany, such as the modern Bauhaus Archive by Walter Gropius, several historical buildings in Berlin, and more.

Module Nine focuses on the architecture in the Netherlands. Some of the major pieces in the module include: Het Schip and Spaarndammerplantsoen, the Hilversum City Hall, the Institute for Sound and Vision, and more. Module Eight also includes a secondary collection highlighting new contemporary architecture in Asia, such as Taipei 101, the Beijing Capital Airport, and the Shanghai Tower. Lastly, this module also features a small collection of Palm Springs projects by Frey, Neutra, and others.

Module Ten focuses on a range of American architectural styles, primarily from the south and southwest. Architectural examples from New Mexico include: Taos Pueblo, El Rancho de Las Golondrinas near Sante Fe, the New Mexico Museum of Art by Isaac Rapp, and the Prince House & Studio by Bart Prince. Also included in this module are several works in California, including major buildings in Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, and Palm Springs.

Module Eleven focuses primarily on many important recent works from China, including the futuristic forms of the Dalian City Sport Center, the Dalian International Conference Center, the Dalian Shell Museum, and the Lingering Garden in Suzhou. This module also features other major architectural works in Southeast Asia, such as the Taj Mahal, the Devi Jagadambi Temple complex, the Secretariat in New Delhi, the Indian Institute of Management by Kahn, and more.

Module Twelve focuses on important works in Italy, including: interior & exterior documentation of the Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi, the House of Augustus (Rome), the Santa Maria Antiqua (Roman Forum), the Basilica of Saint'Andrea (Mantua), San Vitale and the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia (Ravenna), and the Palazzo Pubblico (Siena). The module also features photographs from the 2016 "Pompeii" exhibit at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts in Canada.

Module Thirteen focuses on contemporary and modern architecture in Italy, France, and the United States. Works from Italy include: the CityLifeMilano Residential Complex by Hadid, the Allianz Tower by Maffei and Isozaki, and the 25 Verde by Luciano Pia. Works from France include: the Pierres Vives by Hadid, the Green Cube and Orange Cube by Jakob + MacFarlane. From the USA: Florida Polytechnic University by Calatrava, Disneyworld Resort, and Florida Southern College by Wright.

Module Fourteen primarily focuses on Islamic architecture in Andalusia, Spain. Two of the most important examples of this style of architecture, Alhambra complex in Granada and the Mezquita in Cordoba, are heavily featured in this collection. This module also features important works from nearby Portugal. This includes: the Garden of the Palace of the Marquesses of Fronteira, selections from the National Tile Museum, the Convent of Madre Deus, The Bom Jesus do Monte pilgrimage church with documentation of the Baroque stairs (Braga), and the Palace of Sintra.
