E-books at UCLA

A guide to e-book collections at UCLA Library, including information about scope and use.

Finding E-books in HathiTrust

HathiTrust Digital Library is a repository of scanned books contributed from academic institutions all over the United States, including UCLA and the University of California. Some items in HathiTrust are still copyrighted, or the copyright status cannot be determined. This means the item is placed under a Limited View status. If you are interested in reading the full text, you will want to search the UCLA Library Catalog or UC Library Search for the nearest print copy.

HathiTrust has fully indexed every item that has been scanned. This means when you search HathiTrust, it will not only search through the title, author, subjects, etc., but also the full text.

On the HathiTrust's search screen, enter your search terms, click the Full View Only box, and then click Search. This example is for the "Ming dynasty".

On the search results page, find an item and click the Full View link.
