UCLA Library Assessment Guide

"Assessment is used to make decisions that guide our future, not to validate decisions of the past."

Begin an Assessment

This guide supports planning assessment activities in general and in selected areas of library services such as collections, information literacy, reference services, outreach, technical service, space, and more.

Whether you are a member of the UCLA library staff, a member of the UCLA community, or a visitor from another institution, this guide will get you started. At UCLA Library, assessment is used to make decisions that guide our future, not to validate past decisions.

  • UCLA Library staff member?
Use the Start an Assessment button on the homepage. By doing this, you are: 1) Helping to collect this information in Confluence, 2) Centralizing assessment plans, data, and tools, and 3) Contextualizing assessment and making it available.

  • UCLA community member or visitor from another institution?
Continue the steps and apply them to your departmental or institutional context. You can also review other sections of the guide.
