Online Databases in Sociology
UCLA subscribes to many databases that index articles in journals, both scholarly and popular. Listed below are a selection of those most relevant to your research. If you are not sure of which one(s) to use, remember that you can ask for assistance, either in-person or online.

- Sociological Abstracts This link opens in a new windowContains citations for articles from over 2,600 journals, books, conference papers, and dissertations in sociology and related disciplines in the social and behavioral sciences. Journal articles after 1974 contain abstracts. Also includes Social Planning/Policy and Development Abstracts (SOPODA) as a sub-file, providing additional literature on policy issues topics ranging from violence to aging to disaster preparedness. Coverage: 1952-present.

A multidisciplinary database, with searchable author abstracts, covering the journal literature of most disciplines. Indexes major journals with all cited references captured. Combines the following citation databases: Science Citation Index Expanded; Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI); Arts & Humanities Citation Index (A&HCI); Conference Proceedings Citation Index.

Full text back issues of core scholarly journals, browsable and searchable across multiple disciplines. Coverage starts with first issue, with moving wall for most recent 3-5 years. UCLA has access to selected JSTOR e-books only. JSTOR also includes primary source collections, including images from Artstor.
- Alternative Press Index This link opens in a new windowAlternative, radical, and left periodicals, newspapers, and magazines. The index is international and interdisciplinary, spanning the social sciences and humanities, with its central focus on the practice and theory of socialism, national liberation, labor, indigenous peoples, gays/lesbians, feminism, ecology, democracy, and anarchism. Link searches both Alternative Press Index (1991-present) and Alternative Press Index Archive (1969-1990).

Complete text of articles from 1959 to the present from publications of the ethnic, minority, and native press. Covers news, culture, and history, and is searchable in both English and Spanish.
