Scope

What we collect

The holdings of the UCLA Library about the Central Asia regions are centered around the domains of history, politics, and literature. Over numerous years, the library has actively procured materials in the Russian language pertaining to Central Asia, both about the region and authored by individuals from it. This acquisition effort extends to encompass English-language publications concerning these regions as well.

Countries: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan

Languages: Kazakh, Uzbek, Tajik, Tatar, Bashkir, Turkmen, Kyrgyz, and Uighur

Scope

What we collectmonographs, serials, and other print, electronic, and audiovisual resources on the region's peoples and diasporas, primarily in the humanities and social sciences, with some ecology and environmental science

Countries: all islands in Oceania, with a focus on Hawai'i, US territories and freely associated states, Samoa, Tonga, Papua New Guinea, and Indigenous Australia and New Zealand

Languages: English, some vernacular and creole/pidgin languages (e.g., Aboriginal Australian and Torres Strait Islander languages, Chamorro, Hawaiian, Maori, Marshallese, Palauan, Papuan languages, Samoan, Tok Pisin, Tongan), and some colonial languages (e.g., French, Japanese, Spanish)

Languages: All national languages (Burmese, Chinese, English, Indonesian, Khmer, Lao, Malay, Pilipino, Portuguese, Tamil, Tetum, Thai, and Vietnamese) and selected minority languages (e.g., Balinese, Cebuano, Cham, Hiligaynon, Hmong, Iban, Ilocano, Javanese, Kapampangan, Karen, Shan, Sundanese), colonial languages (Dutch, French, Spanish), and other languages (e.g., Arabic, German, Japanese).
