Finding Scholarly Articles
Searching for Scholarly Articles can be intimidating, especially when databases offer so many search options. Below are some resources that you can use to help make it easier.

Search ExperimentallyRather than trying to construct one perfect search, plan on trying several experimental searches. As you search, seek out diverse perspectives by using a variety of keywords. Look for interdisciplinary perspectives on your topic by trying out your searches in more than one database.

Article Databases
This is a select list of available article databases that cover a range of subjects. If you want to find others, go to Databases By Subject and search through your discipline (political science, sociology, history, etc.). You can also access subject specific databases through the Subject Guides, which also have tips and other resources on how to navigate research in that discipline area.

Full text back issues of core scholarly journals, browsable and searchable across multiple disciplines. Coverage starts with first issue, with moving wall for most recent 3-5 years. UCLA has access to selected JSTOR e-books only. JSTOR also includes primary source collections, including images from Artstor.

Indexes the international literature in sociology and related disciplines in the social and behavioral sciences from 1,800+ serials publications; also provides abstracts of books, book chapters, dissertations, and conference papers. Coverage from 1952-present.

A multidisciplinary database, with searchable author abstracts, covering the journal literature of most disciplines. Indexes major journals with all cited references captured. Combines the following citation databases: Science Citation Index Expanded; Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI); Arts & Humanities Citation Index (A&HCI); Conference Proceedings Citation Index.
Newpapers
Newspapers are a good resource for seeing how issues were covered in the contemporary media. You can search for UCLA football (or any other topic) and find 1000s of articles. There are many other news sources, which you can find on the News Research Guide.
