Black Art and Artists

The Black Artist Fund is a nonprofit organization giving money directly to Black artists to combat systemic inequity in art.

The NBAF Artist Project Fund is an initiative created in 2020 initially to serve as a COVID Relief Fund and since has evolved to further nurture amazing talent on a longer trajectory by supporting the growth and development of artists with financial and business support resources to ensure their projects thrive and make an economic impact. NBAF intends to provide much needed exposure via programs and activations to help artists develop new audiences, strengthen their voices and advance their careers.

The Illuminations Grant for Black Trans Women Visual Artists, a $10,000 grant, supports visual artists who are self-identified Black trans women and trans femmes. The Illuminations Grant is administered through Queer|Art with a rotating panel of judges, each of whom will conduct a studio visit with the winning artist as part of the award’s focus on supporting creative and professional development. Queer|Art staff will also provide the winning artist with consultations and further access to many of the tools they have developed in conjunction with the organization’s cornerstone creative and professional development program, Queer|Art|Mentorship. Qualified artists must be self-identified Black trans women and trans femmes working in visual art and based in the United States.

Black Women in Visual Art (BWVA) is an organization for womxn, visual art and culture professionals of the African Diaspora. BWVA aims to foster networks, share resources and develop programs with the goal of increasing visibility for women in the global majority. BWVA was created to steward and nurture enduring representation and leadership in the visual arts and cultural sector.

Black Art Futures Fund provides general operating support for U.S. small and community-based Black-led and Black-benefitting arts and culture organizations, whose annual budgets are $500k or below. Organizations can be independent 501c3 organizations or entities with a fiscal sponsor in place for more than one calendar year.

Since 1989, the National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures has delivered programs that stabilize and revitalize the US Latino arts and cultural sector via funding, leadership training, convenings, research, and advocacy. The NALAC Fund for the Arts (NFA) grant program offers various funding opportunities to Latinx artists, arts administrators, ensembles and organizations in the United States and Puerto Rico.
