Finding Books in the UCLA Library Catalog

This subject guide only includes highlights of our collection. Search the UCLA Library Catalog for books, journals, and other materials. For help searching the catalog, contact the reference desk or look at the Getting Started: Information Research Tips Research Guide.

Searching the UCLA Library Catalog will retrieve materials owned by many UCLA libraries. The catalog record for each book or journal includes a location and call number. This tells you which library owns the item (e.g. "Biomed" for Biomedical Library) and where within the Library the item is shelved. Some common locations from the Catalog and what they mean:

  • Biomed General Stacks: In the Biomedical Library Stacks.
  • Biomed Reference: Stacks located behind the elevators on the 1st floor.
  • Biomed History and Special Collections Stacks: The 9th stack level of the Biomedical Library.
  • Biomed Reserves: Ask for the book or journal at the Biomedical Library circulation desk.
