Playwriting and Screenwriting Resources

The Margaret Herrick Library is a world-renowned, non-circulating reference and research collection devoted to the history and development of the motion picture as an art form and an industry. Established in 1928 and now located in Beverly Hills, the library is open to the public and used year-round by students, scholars, historians and industry professionals.

The University of Southern California Cinematic Arts Library's primary mission is to support the curriculum of the School of Cinematic Arts and to foster study and research. In addition to an extensive book collection, the library also holds many archives focusing on the history of the film industry and containing many rarely seen photographs, as well as scripts, scores and other artifacts.

Frances Howard Goldwyn Hollywood Regional Library - A branch of the LAPL featuring special collections, unpublished motion picture and television scripts, production files, posters, playbills, and more.

Our mission is to preserve and promote the craft, history, and voices of screen storytelling. To meet that goal, we collect scripts and related materials, and make them available to everyone who comes to visit—not just Writers Guild members. The library is accessible in person by appointment only.

The Paley Center for Media is the leading, nonprofit 501(c)(3) cultural institution whose mission is to preserve our media history and explore media’s powerful shaping influence on our culture and society. At the heart of the Paley Center sits the Paley Archive, which represents the largest public collection of its kind and is often cited as a national treasure, with over 160,000 programs spanning more than 100 years.

Founded in 1969, the Louis B. Mayer Library is dedicated to supporting AFI Conservatory studies by offering resources that complement the curriculum and promote scholarship. Resources consist of book, film, audio, video, manuscript and other collections focusing on the history and craft of visual storytelling.
