What is Overleaf?

Overleaf is an online LaTeX editor that enables easy editing and collaboration. Overleaf provides two editing options, code or visual, along with a visual showing the final document which encourages understanding and proper utilization of the base LaTeX code.  Overleaf facilitates collaborative LaTeX writing as multiple editors can be added to a project. Additional features include:

  • Easy table and figure creation and editing
  • Version and change tracking
  • Project templates
  • Simultaneous editing by collaborators
  • Citation tracking with LaTeX
  • Integrations with: Mendeley, Zotero, Github, DropBox, and more

Overleaf can be used for a wide array of written works, such as research papers, grant proposals, and dissertations & theses among others.

Beginning Spring 2025, UCLA will provide institutional access to Overleaf. UCLA members can access the platform via the website at:
