JMT is the oldest music theory journal published in the US. It began in 1957 at Yale University, and is currenty published bi-annually by Duke University Press. "The journal publishes research with important and broad applications in the analysis of music and the history of music theory as well as theoretical or metatheoretical work that engages and stimulates ongoing discourse in the field," (Duke University Press, 2014). JMT is currently edited by Professor Richard Cohn (Yale University).
MTO is the eletronic, open-access journal of the Society for Music Theory (SMT). It began in 1993 and is published by SMT. MTO "features... articles, reviews, commentaries, and analytical essays," (SMT, 2014). In addition, MTO publishes a list of job opportunities and abstracts of recently completed dissertations.MTO is currently edited by Professors Yonatan Malin (University of Colorado-Boulder) and Nicole Biamonte (McGill Univesity).
IJCC is an electronic, open-access journal published by the International Association for Academic Research (IAAR). IJCC "publishes studies on new music, music theory, music practice, music analysis, academic music, music education, algorithmic music composition and popular music... new music composition ideas, types of musical composition, music arranging techniques, composing techniques and fundamentals of musical composition," (IJCC, 2014). IJCC is currently edited by Irina Abrosimova--Chairman of IAAR.
Sounding Board (entitled In the Key of Now as of 2012) is the official newsletter of the American Composers Forum (ACF). The UCLA Library holds publications nos. 4-36. However, more recent publications of the newsletter can be viewed online at ACF newsletters.
