Cite While You Write (CWYW)

Use EndNote with Microsoft Word to automatically format references and create bibliographies.

From Word

  1. Position the cursor at the point you want to cite a reference
  2. Select the "EndNote" Tab

Mac = From the "Tools" menu choose the "EndNote" -> "Go To EndNote" sub-menu

  1. Click "Go To EndNote"

From EndNote

  1. Select the reference(s) you want to cite
  2. From the "Tools" ->"Cite Why You Write [CWYW]" sub-menu select "Insert Selected Citation(s)"

From Word

  1. Select the "EndNote" Tab

Mac = From the "Tools" menu choose the "EndNote" -> "Configure Bibliography" sub-menu

  1. From the "Style" drop-down menu choose an output style (e.g. APA 6th, MLA 8th).

Note: Choose "Select Another Style" to see all available output styles.

Mac = From the "With output style" drop-down menu choose an output style (e.g. APA 6th, MLA 8th)  and click "OK".

Note: Click "Browse" to see all available output styles.

A bibliography will automatically be created at the end of your document.

Note: To cite a reference in a footnote, use Word to create the footnote. Position the cursor in the footnote and insert the selected EndNote reference.

Citation Styles
