Histories of the American West at the William Andrews Clark Memorial Library

The Clark Library has digitized 20 manuscripts from the Federico Gómez de Orozco Collection on the Establishment of Spanish Missions in California, New Mexico, and other Southwest Territories. 

Digitized materials include: 

• Diario de Navegacion (1788): A diary of the exploration of the California coast to the 61st degree north latitude by José Narvãez (1768–1840). 

• Official document relating to the preparation of an expedition to California (May 21, 1681): A manuscript written by Tomas Antonio de la Cerda (1638–1692).

• Puerto del Capitain Bodega descubierto con La Goleta Sonora (1775): This manuscript shows Bodega Head, Bodega Bay, Tomales Bay, and Tomales Point sections of the northern California Coast by Juan de la Bodega y Cuadra (1743–1794).
