The selected resources featured in this section are not meant to be all encompassing and bring to light varying interpretations of BIPOC poets and poetry, as well as the limitations of categorization within research guides as some identities, communities, regions, and genres overlap.

Search Tips

Subject Heading Searches

To search by subject heading in the UC Library Search database, select "Subject" from the dropdown menu under search filters and then enter search terms.

The following sample subject headings are hyperlinked and will send you to the search results directly. These sample subject headings are broad and may include contested identity terminology.

When searching specific communities and nations, detailed subject headings are suggested, such as:

Author Searches

To search by author in the UC Library Search database, you can either enter the name of the poet into a general keyword search or select "Author" from the dropdown menu under search filters and then enter the poet's name.

Accessing Resources

To access books which are in the UCLA catalog on this guide, click the title and either click the online access button(s) to access online books or look for the location and availability of the item.

To access books on this guide which are not currently part of the UCLA catalog, please request an interlibrary loan. To do this click the title of the book and scroll down the catalog record to the "How to get it" section. Log into your library account and after automatically being directed back to the catalog record, choose the "Request through Interlibrary Loan" button. This will open up a "Resource Sharing Request." Fill out this form to send this request and await further instructions.
