9:15-10:00 Keynote Speaker: The Honorable Ron Galperin, Los Angeles City Controller. Introduction by Mark Gold, Associate Vice Chancellor for Environment and Sustainability, Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Sustainable LA Grand Challenge.

10:15-11:45 Panel and Discussion: Lessons and Case Studies for Urban, Open, and Civic Data Research

11:45-1:15pm Urban, Open, and Civic Data Projects Showcase (Lunch served for registered attendees)

Using the collaboration pods in Research Commons, this session will showcase several urban, open, and civic data projects. Attendees can join the pods that interest them most, on the fly, for informal discussions of the projects. See presenters and project descriptions below.

1:20 – 2:50 pm Panel and Discussion: Challenges and Complexity in Urban, Open, and Civic Data Research.

A panel discussion of leaders in open, urban, and civic data. Discussants will draw out and explore challenges, including ethics and privacy, data availability, data ownership, data sharing, constraints on researchers, unmet technological needs, research design, and other issues in data research.
