Printers and Artists

  • Allen Press and Dorothy and Lewis Allen Ephemera Collection - printed ephemera (predominantly prospectuses), photographs, and correspondence from the private press founded in 1939 by Lewis and Dorothy Allen in the San Francisco Bay area.
  • Archer (H. Richard) and the Hippogryph Press Collection - correspondence, ephemera, photographs and other materials collected by H. Richard Archer, former bibliographer at the Clark Library. Includes items printed by his personal press, the Hippogryph Press.
  • Armitage (Merle) Collection - correspondence, printed ephemera, articles, book designs, announcements, and other materials written by and about and designed by book designer and theater impresario Merle Armitage.
  • Battledore Press Collection - printed ephemera created by the Battledore Press run by Mary and Andrew Horn. Many of the pieces of ephemera relate to the UCLA libraries.
  • Bentley (Wilder) Papers - papers and ephemera related to the activities of Wilder Bentley and his work with the Archetype Press.
  • Bohne (Pall W.) Collection - printed works produced by Pall Bohne and other California fine printers, as well as correspondence and other materials related to Bohne's involvement in the Rounce & Coffin Club.
  • Browne (Clyde) and the Abbey Press Collection - items related to, written by or about Clyde Browne, the printer and proprietor at the Abbey Press.
  • Buckland Wright (John), Collection of Letters to Christopher Sandford - correspondence and other material sent from engraver John Buckland Wright to Christopher Sandford, the owner of the Golden Cockerel Press.
  • Carpenter (Edwin H.) Collection on Hand Presses - material collected by Edwin H. Carpenter about hand presses located in California, as research for a census of hand presses.
  • Castle Press and Grant Dahlstrom Ephemera Collection - ephemera and other printed matter produced by Grant Dahlstrom and the Castle Press.
  • Cheney (William M.) Papers - printed miniature books, correspondence, ephemera, broadsides, and woodblocks related to William Murray Cheney and his activities as a printer in Los Angeles.
  • Evans (Henry H.) Journals, Daybooks, and Correspondence - the personal diaries, daybooks, and correspondence of Henry H. Evans, the founder of the Peregrine Press.
  • Everson (William) Papers - material written by William Everson, primarily poems, correspondence, and drafts of manuscrupts (including his autobiography). Other items such as ephemera and newspaper clippings are also held in the collection.
  • Fine Press Ephemera Collection - material from various fine presses and individual printers in the United States and England (but primarily from California). Items include cards, advertisements, invitations, and other printed materials.
  • Freedman (Ted) Papers - correspondence, ephemera, photographs and other materials collected by Ted Freedman, from 1935-1966. Many items were printed under his personal imprint, the Platen Press.
  • Gerry (Vance) and the Weather Bird Press Archive - contains the artistic and commercial output of Vance Gerry and his Weather Bird Press. Materials largely consist of Gerry's printed works and the production materials created during his work process, as well as his sketchbooks and some of his research and correspondence files.
  • Gibbings (Robert), Joseph Kelly Vodrey Collection on - correspondence, artwork, bound manuscripts, ephemera, photographs and other materials by Robert Gibbings and related to his work
  • Gill (Eric) Archive - manuscripts, diaries, correspondence, legal and financial documents, scrapbooks, clippings, periodicals, photographs, documenting the personal and artistic development and activities of Eric Gill, a twentieth-century English stone-cutter, sculptor, artist, author, type designer, and printer.
  • Gill (Eric) Artwork Collection -  original artwork and other visual material produced by or related to British artist, designer and sculptor Eric Gill.
  • Goudy (Frederic W.) Collection - printed ephemera, pamphlets, pictures and other materials related to the work of Frederic W. Goudy, a prolific typeface creator.
  • Hart Press Collection - items printed by James D. Hart of the Hart Press. Included are individual pieces of ephemera and keepsake printed booklets or pamphlets.
  • Hoffman (Richard J.) Collection - material created and printed by Richard J. Hoffman for various individuals, institutions, and clubs.
  • Kronfeld (Marion) Collection - notebooks, sketchbooks, and correspondence from Los Angeles-based artist Marion Campbell Kronfeld.
  • Landacre (Paul) Collection - original artwork, prints, and blocks, personal papers, business archive, and published versions of Paul Landacre's work, as well as the personal papers and publications of his wife, Margaret McCreery Landacre. 
  • Landacre (Paul), Anthony L. Lehman Collection on - Anthony L. Lehman's research and reference material for his 1983 book, Paul Landacre: A Life and a Legacy, as well as Landacre artwork from Lehman's collection.
  • Landacre (Paul), Crisell Collection on - collection formed by Robert and Toni Crisell consists of the artist's prints and related drawings, published examples of his work, exhibition catalogs and other works about Landacre, and research files compiled by researcher Patricia Adler Ingram.
  • Lang (Fred S.) Company Archive - correspondence, ephemera and other materials of and made by The Fred S. Lang Company of Los Angeles
  • Leadenhall Press, Matthew Young Collection on - ephemera, correspondence, and research files from and/or related to the Leadenhall Press and Andrew White Tuer, compiled by Matthew Young in his research for his book Field & Tuer, The Leadenhall Press: A Checklist.
  • Levenson (Roger) and the Tamalpais Press Archive - papers of Tamalpais Press and its founder Roger Levenson, dating from 1955-1994, including correspondence, job files, proofs and related ephemera.
  • Nash (John Henry) Collection - printed ephemera created by John Henry Nash dating 1900-1947, as well as photocopies of correspondence between Nash and William Andrews Clark, Jr. (originals at UC Berkeley Bancroft Library).
  • Nethery (Wallace and Corry) Papers - material created and collected by Wallace and Corry Nethery including correspondence, drafts, research notes, and ephemera related to both their printing work and research projects.
  • Peregrine Press and Henry H. Evans Collection - correspondence, writings, designs, photographs, prints, artwork and ephemera produced by Henry H. Evans and the Peregrine Press.
  • Plantin Press Papers - the archives of the Plantin Press of Saul and Lillian Marks, including correspondence, photographs, printed items by Plantin Press and other printers, and production materials for Plantin Press books.
  • Rampant Lions Press Collection - ephemera and other material related to the Rampant Lions Press and its owners Will and Sebastian Carter.
  • Reagh (Patrick) Papers - the archive of printer Patrick Reagh, including his job files, production materials, ephemera, correspondence and other materials.
  • Ritchie (Ward) Papers - the business archive of printer Ward Ritchie, dating 1928-1996, including job packets, typescripts, production materials, photographs, correspondence, and some personal items.
  • Ritchie (Ward) Personal Correspondence, Papers and Albums - letters, photographs and documents dating 1926-1995, largely related to the personal life of Los Angeles printer Ward Ritchie.
  • Stricker (Thomas P.) Papers - correspondence, ephemera, original drawings, designs, broadsides, and photographs related to Thomas Perry Stricker and his activities as a printer in Los Angeles and New York.
  • Warde (Beatrice) Correspondence with Evan and Mabel Gill - correspondence from Beatrice Warde to Evan and Mabel Gill, in addition to some photographs and news clippings.

Printer's Clubs and Bibliophilic Organizations

  • Amalgamated Printers' Association Ephemera Collection -  ephemera printed by members of the Amalgamated Printers' Association (APA), a hobby printers' group founded in 1958. Collection includes material printed at the Wayzgoose, the APA's annual convention. 
  • Book Fair Poster Collection - posters from fifteen book fairs that were held in California between 1963 and 2004.
  • Booksellers' Catalogs, Collection of - catalogs collected by the Clark Library and the Heritage Bookshop, dating from 1918 to the present.
  • Grolier Club, Clark Library Collection on - materials produced by The Grolier Club, including event announcements, yearly event lists, publications for sale, keepsake booklets, correspondence, and exhibition catalogs.
  • Rounce and Coffin Club Collection - papers and printed ephemera created for members of the Rounce & Coffin Club collected over time by the Clark Library.
  • Rounce and Coffin Club Records - the official archive of the Rounce & Coffin Club, including records (event, meeting, membership, financial, publicity, and general) as well as printed ephemera, photographs, and correspondence.
  • Sette of Odd Volumes Collection - ephemera and correspondence related to bibliophilic club Ye Sette of Odd Volumes from the collections of Ralph Straus and John Hassall. The majority of material is printed ephemera related to Odd Volumes meetings and activities, but there is also a substantial amount of correspondence written to John Hassall, as well as a manuscript notebook of minutes from 1919-1921.
  • Western Books Exhibition Collection - the Rounce and Coffin Club's collection of books submitted to and included in their Western Books Exhibition from 1938 to 2005.
  • Zamorano Club Archive - the official archive of the Zamorano Club, a Los Angeles-based club for bibliophiles and manuscript collectors, which was founded in 1928.
  • Zamorano Club Collection - materials created by and for the Zamorano Club, including primarily printed books, pamphlets, and ephemera from meetings, talks, and dinners. This collection was created over time by Clark Library staff who were Zamorano Club members.
  • Zamorano Club Ephemera, Robert E. Cowan Collection of - ephemera related to Zamorano Club events from 1929-1935, from the collection of bibliographer Robert E. Cowan.

Booksellers, Publishers, and the Book Trade

  • Heritage Book Shop Records - the archive of the Heritage Book Shop, an antiquarian bookseller formerly located in West Los Angeles, California, which includes sale and purchase invoices, inventories, daily business files, catalogs, and artwork, dated 1966-2007.
  • May (James Lewis) Papers - correspondence addressed to James Lewis May and his daughter, Barbara Lewis May, as well as manuscripts of works by May and his correspondents
  • Sowers (Roy Vernon), Roger Burford-Mason Collection on - research material collected by Roger Burford-Mason for his book, Roy Vernon Sowers : a life in rare books (1997).
