Tuesday, October 8th, 8PM, Royce Hall
Colorful composer/bandleader Goran Bregovic makes a triumphant return to Royce Hall performing his unique brand of eclectic, up-tempo Balkan Brass backed by an eclectic nine-piece ensemble that constitutes the core of his acclaimed Wedding and Funeral Orchestra.
Bregovic and his epic Wedding and Funeral Orchestra made their West Coast debut at Royce Hall in 2009, performing to packed-house audiences in two thunderous evenings of music that the Los Angeles Times called “part celebratory and part spellbindingly soulful.”
“Champagne for Gypsies,” the group’s 2012 album, is described as a musical reaction to the pressure and backlash against Gypsies (Roma) across Europe. Goran's highly collaborative approach again comes to the fore with special guests as varied as France’s Gypsy Kings, Eugene Hütz of Gogol Bordello, Florin Salam, singer of Romania’s traditional manele music, and Swiss singer Stéphane Eicher.
