UCLA Library Research Notebook

UCLA Librarians have created this research notebook to help you get started with your research project. As you complete the notebook, you’ll learn how to:

  • Create a topic map in order to brainstorm ideas for your project and organize those ideas into a research question,

  • Generate a list of keywords that you can use when searching for sources on your topic,

  • Conduct an effective search in a database or catalog, and

  • Get help from the UCLA Library staff!

Bibliographic Management Tools

EndNote and Zotero are bibliographic management programs that will help you organize your references and create bibliographies in 100s of citation styles (e.g., APA, MLA, Chicago, Turabian, etc.)

An EndNote license can be purchased at the UCLA Store for downloading onto your own computer or you can use the web-based EndNote Basic at no cost. The following handouts will help you get started. More information can be found in the EndNote and EndNote Online or Zotero guides.
