Finding Local and Regional Histories

Researching the cultural, political, economic, and social history of a particular country or region during the time period in which your ancestors lived can provide important context for understanding the genealogical information you find, as well as clues for how to proceed further with your research.

Tip: To find out if UCLA has histories of the particular geographical area you are interested in, try doing a Subject List search in our catalog. For example:

In the search box, type in the name of the town, country, or region and the word "history" to get a list of subject headings. Then you can click on the appropriate subject headings to get a list of the books and other materials that share that same topic.
