About The Program of Central Asia

The Program on Central Asia cultivates a space on campus, within the broader academic communities of Southern California and among the general public for the social, cultural, religious and economic dimensions of Central Asian studies.

Geographically, the Program covers the region from the Caspian Sea to Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia and Siberia, with a special focus on Afghanistan. Historically, the Program ranges from the distant past (such as archaeological discoveries in Mongolia) to current affairs (with issues such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization).
