EndNote and EndNote Online

Melvyl Export

Export a single reference:

  • Search Melvyl for items on your topic
  • View the full record of the reference you want to export
  • Click 'Cite/Export'
  • Select 'Export to EndNote / Reference Manager'
  • Double-click or Open the exported EndNote file
    • If prompted Select your EndNote library
  • EndNote should automatically import your reference

Export a list of references:

  • Sign into/Create your Melvyl account
  • Search for items on your topic
  • Select the references you want to export
  • 'Save' the references to a 'List'
  • Navigate to your List
  • Select the 'Citations View' tab
  • From the 'Export selected references' drop-down menu select 'to EndNote / Reference Manager'
  • Click 'Export'
  • Double-click or Open the exported EndNote file
    • If prompted Select your EndNote library
  • EndNote should automatically import your references

JSTOR Export

  • Search JSTOR for articles on your topic
  • Select/Mark the reference(s) you want to export
  • From the 'Export Selected Citations' drop-down menu:
    • Select 'Export a RIS file (For EndNote, ProCite, Reference Manager, RefWorks, Zotero...)'
  • Double-click or Open the exported EndNote file
    • If prompted Select your EndNote library
  • EndNote should automatically import your reference(s)

Online Search

Many freely available online databases can be searched using EndNote's Online Search feature:

Library of Congress Online Catalog

  • From the 'Tools' menu choose 'Online Search'
  • Select 'Library of Congress' from the list of connection files and click 'Choose'
  • Search for books on your topic
  • Click 'OK' to retrieve references from the 'Confirm Online Search' box

PubMed

  • From the 'Tools' menu choose 'Online Search'
  • Select 'PubMed (NLM)' from the list of connection files and click 'Choose'
  • Search for articles on your topic
  • Click 'OK' to retrieve references from the 'Confirm Online Search' box
