Tips for Searching and Evaluating Books

  • If you are not sure where to start, do a KEYWORD search for relevant terms or phrases; put phrases in "quotation marks".
  • Remember to check both British and U.S. spellings, e.g. aging and ageing; behavior and behaviour.
  • Do a subject heading search in the UCLA library catalog.
  • Use ? to truncate a word, e.g. american? will retrieve american and americans.
  • Powell Library Map - check to see where your call number is located.
